Sunday School

Here are some random shots of the sweet children in our Sunday school class. Each child is unique and each one adds a special "flavor" to our class with his/her own wonderful, God-given personality. We have shy ones, we have not-so-shy ones! What a privilege it is to have a part in the spiritual development of these little children. Randy and I love and enjoy each child and are always so sad when one of them turns nine and moves up to the next class; but, we are so happy when a six-year-old moves up into our class! Take a peek:

Last night was our first class in Baptist History. We are looking forward to twelve more weeks of an intense and interesting study of our Baptist forefathers.

Just between you and me (or is it "I"?)

Thank you to everyone who left a comment for my previous post. In my opinion, the answers are B, A, A. To follow is an explanation. Please read it through and keep in mind that in the photos I used, those who are pictured become objects and "I" can never be an object. If someone were to ask me, "Who is this?" while pointing to a picture of me, would it be correct to say, "That's I"? Read on...

First let's look at case--that is, the difference between the subject and object forms of the pronouns. We know what subjects are, and objects are those words that come at the end of prepositional phrases (among other things). You probably already know the differences, but just in case, here's a list of the forms:

Subject - Object

I - me

you - you

he - him

she - her

it- it

we - us

they - them

The only thing you need to know is that these forms can't be switched around. If the word is a subject, it must be a subject form; if it's an object . . . well, you get the idea. Consider the following:

  • Peggy and me barked at the garbage truck.
  • Her and me fought over the bone.

Some of you are probably thinking, "What's wrong with these?" In spoken English, you'll hear things like this every day. But in written English, you need to make sure your forms aren't mixed up. The correct versions are "Peggy and I" and "She and I," since the words are the subject of the sentence. Nothing in the object list can be a subject--ever! You wouldn't say, "Me barked" or "me fought"--unless you were Tarzan.

The same goes for objects of prepositions. You can't use a subject form in a prepositional phrase.

  • Big Dog fetched the paper for her and I.
  • Peggy ran after John and she.
"For I"? "After she"? These can't be right, since both are in the subject list; but, they're used as object of the preposition. The correct versions are "for me" and after her." You shouln't have as much trouble with these because you don't hear them misused quite as often in the way. But watch out for "Just between you and I." That phrase gets a lot of use--even though "I" can't be an object. It's "just between you and me"!

If you had enough time to read and consider this post, feel free to leave a comment!

English 101

Recently, while reading through several blogs, I found a very common error among them all. I am interested to know how my fellow bloggers would write captions for the following photos. In the comment box, write your answers, if you will. For example: A, B, A. Thanks so much for your input.

What should the caption beneath this photo say?
A) Abbey and I.
B) Abbey and me.

How about this one?
A) Abbey, Randy, and me.
B) Abbey, Randy, and I.

How 'bout this one?
A) Me.
B) I.

Good times...

Every now and again, LouAnne will pop in the office after school to chat with Abbey and me. Thomas is usually there and sometimes Caleb. Tuesday was one of those days and did we have a great time! We shared stories from North Dakota and had some really good laughs together! These are the times memories are made from -- really, really good ones! Here's a pic of two good friends...

Going...

Gone! I figured it was time to eat him; after all, he'd been hangin' around my windowsill since Christmas. (No, I didn't eat him all by myself. I had help, the names of which are Randy and Abbey!)

Your thoughts please...

Ahhh. The luxury of wearing one's pajamas until the daylight begins to wane. This is the sentiment of many - but not me. The wearing of pajamas throughout day does not make me feel luxurious nor relaxed. It makes me feel lazy. During the times that I have tried to stay in my sleeping clothes for the whole day, I have only watched while the laundry remained in separated piles on the floor, the dishes remained stacked in the sink, and the unmade bed stayed that way. All this while I roam around the house with coffee cup-in-hand trying to figure out why I can't get motivated - why I can't decide what to do next. Is it like this for you? Are you, like me, dazed and confused at the lack of life's first morning step of getting dressed? Perhaps you are one of those who can begin cleaning at 7 am in your pajamas until the entire job is finished? Please take my poll. I am interested in this.

A beautiful Saviour, a lovely Lord...

This verse melted my heart during my morning devotions... "And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town..." Mark 8:22, 23
Here we see Jesus, the most masculine of all men; yet, tender, loving, compassionate, kind, and concerned leading a blind man by the hand to a place where He would heal his blindness. I remembered when Jesus, with His faithful forgiveness, tenderly took me--blind and lost--by the hand, led me out of the city of sin, and saved my soul. He gave me spiritual sight, and He changed my life. I love Him.

I know, I know. My blog has been boring. I promise new pictures - soon. For now, suffice it to say that my life has been very busy. Not a bad thing, but not blogger friendly. Thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned.

Company!

The Capobianco family came to our house for dinner this past weekend - and what a time we had! Our normally quiet house came alive with lots of fun, constant chatter, and good-hearted laughter! What a joy it was to have them!

The whole gang...

We missed Dominic and Rocco, but hopefully we'll get to enjoy their company next time. We love you all!
