If you open the lid on our outdoor propane tank, you'll find a Carolina wren's nest! There were five eggs in all; since this photo was taken, three have hatched. The tiny birds are not at all cute and fluffy right now, but when they are you'll get a picture!

The parent birds are tiny as they can be and keep themselves busy all day long, darting in and out of the tank. Their song is very loud and distinct as heard on this website. They are very vocal, especially in the morning and we've enjoyed hearing their happy song!

Hi mrs E.
Oh Wow!! thats really neat. at my house theres a basket ball hoop and a bird made a nest in the top of the hoop, like inside the pipe, and i found it cause i heard chirping from inside and a bird going in and out all day. i guess bringing food to the babies. but that's really cool.

I'm still amazed at the wildlife sanctuary that is your backyard! From your past posts I've seen deer, guinea hens, chipmunks, a neighbors dog, doves, cardinals & many varieties of birds as you've mentioned in your Jan. post. Anyway, keep it up I do so enjoy your wildlife posts, & keep us posted on those baby birds :)

We've had 2 baby wren fly to our deck. We know adult wrens have such quirky personalities. The babies are no different. Enjoy! I look forward to more of your photos.

Oh, you might want to buy some mealworms from a bait shop if you'd like to help feed the babies. Worms are kept in little plastic containers the bait shop will give you. Keep the containers in a paper bag in your refrigerator. Helps keep the worms dormant until you take them out. Set a few out in a dish near the nest with edges so the worms won't climb over. Feed once or twice a day but no more as they will become too dependent. We fed these to our bluebirds but the wrens also came and wanted a few for their babies.
