Roses in November!

Can you imagine a place where roses grow without attention? Imagine Long Island! I have always loved roses, but was never, ever able to grow them in other places where I have lived. Long Islanders can grow roses without even trying. I planted a miniature rose bush next to our garage seven years ago. It was given to me on Mother's Day from one of my boys and I fully expected it to wither up and die. Seven years later it is producing lovely red buds - in NOVEMBER! And to think I've never even fertilized the thing! Here are some pics:

If you look closely at this photo, you can see a polka dotted feather from our neighborhood Guinea Hen and the blossoms of some very hearty marigolds!
